Okay I hate sound like a complete noob, but can somebody breakdown exactly what are K frames, J frames, etc? I have an XD40 and I see holsters that say they fit certain types of frames but never say what those gun types are.
I just don't know that much about types of handguns being more of a rifle man. I'm sure the info would help a lot of others, too. Thanks.

K Frame and J Frame are Smith and Wesson model "sizes".
    Revolvers - Smith & Wesson

You have several calibers, barrel lengths, and other options in each frame size.

The Frame Size has nothing to do with any other manufacturer (for the most part). You'll have to find a holster that is specifically made for your firearm.

So autos don't have "frames"? Thanks. Very helpful.

Well, they do still have a frame (of course), but they don't follow the S&W frame sizes. Some of the semi-autos do follow a standardized sizing, though. The 1911's are a good example (officer, defender, commander, government). Other's may have their own sizing vategories.

I think some other revolvers follow the S&W frames sizes "close enough" to share the same holster.
