Who has done what with their generator to make it less loud/obtrusive? What didn't work?

Sure, looking at videos are reading other forums will give information, but it's always better when it's home-grown :):

We have toyed with mufflers from motorcycles and such. The do work. When we run ours they are locked down in my shop and you are not getting in there to get them. Also muffles them a lot.

Look at adapting a larger muffler to you engine.

My Generac is pretty quite considering it's size, remote location takes care of the rest.

The Mil., made us dig, and then fill sandbags ..... OMG, still LOUDER than all 7734.....

I agree with BIG muffler .....

I just up-graded again and am looking at this for the new one.

Honda ultra-Quite's are insanely expensive. We had one when we were racing. Wish I still had it.

    Detached shed and muffler.

I put ours in the backyard barn about sixty feet from our house and more than a hundred feet from the neighbors. I kept the factory muffler and added a second muffler piped through the wall. This is very quiet.

Generator in a garage and exhaust piped outside?

Yes through flex I got from a buddy that shut down his auto repair shop. Just running it through 15 ft. of 2" flex drops the Db's a lot. I have a small muffler thet will cary both of them easily so I am looking to Y-pipe the flex into 1 muffler.

    Still mobile

    As always, nice job.
    Both mine are mobile.

Mine is still mobile as well. I built this cradle which is bolted to the floor. It holds both the wheels and the legs captive when the external muffler is attached. By removing one muffler clamp and the ground wire it rolls right out.

That's awesome! Good work! Might keep my eyes open for a muffler.... my father in law said he'd help me with a transfer switch, so I've been pretty excited about my generator lately. It even looks good!
Those quiet Hondas are crazy. That's on the "maybe someday" list.
