Monroe Lake will host a special event for geocachers on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The Reservoir Ramble Geocache Challenge will take participants on a tour of every public recreation area on Monroe Lake, plus a couple of less well-known spots.

“It’s a big reservoir, so there will be a fair amount of driving involved,” said Jill Vance, interpretive naturalist. “However, once participants reach each location, it’s basically a park and grab.”

Participants can start the challenge anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. All geocachers who finish by 4 p.m. will be entered into a drawing to win a 2012 Annual Entrance Pass for Indiana State Parks and Reservoirs.

The starting location for the challenge is the Paynetown SRA property office, located at 4850 S. SR 446 in Bloomington.

Participants must check-in at the office to receive instructions and coordinate information. Geocachers are encouraged to register in advance at coord.info/GC38DVA.

There is no entrance fee charged at Monroe Lake during the winter months.

For questions about the event, call Vance at (812) 837-9546.
