We have a BRAND new bathroom vanity with BRAND NEW piping underneath; yet we've already developed some drain slime.

Suggestions on how to remedy it chemically? Regular drain-opener just drains right down without taking care of the biggest issue area: the vertical pipe.

Hi Indy_Guy, I would agree that the foam stuff would be the way to go in your case since it "sticks" to the pipe on the way down.

Looks like I'll invest in some of the foaming drain opener...

I've tried gels before (on the old vanity/sink) and it just went right on through; the clog wasn't enough to hold it in place long enough to work.

I'll follow up the foaming cleaner with baking soda / vinegar then flush that with boiling water.

Not sure I want to use muriatic acid as it's one of those polymer solid-surface sinks (Formica brand). Not sure if it'd be safe.

And yes, Ricnzac, my wife has long hair! I'm going to blame the whole thing on her. hah!

I am not a plumber. Not even slightly. I don't have the butt crack for it. That's why I love PVC sink pipes. It's easy to remove the p-trap for cleaning and you don't even need a wrench. Take the trap off, run a bottle brush through the trap and the sink drain, reassemble and off we go.
