Anyone do shopping for their prep at GFS? Prices seem reasonable and most items are bulk. I was there to pick up something and was thinking about it walking around the store.

I've never been inside one, but my sister buys 50# bags of dog food...um, TVP (textured vegetable protein) there and my mom buys frozen hamburger patties and some spices there. I recommend staying away from the burgers and, well, TVP sort of speaks for itself right? I have heard many positive things about the place though.

I have worked in the local stores on the refrigeration systems and they are as clean and organized as any. The price's are fair as far as I can tell.

I've used GFS for most of my dried goods and have no complaints. Their dried beans taste just as good as any one else just cheaper than most.

I would consider this a good source so long as you have reasonable expectation, particularly in that the products are designed for a shelf life appropriate for a restaurant and not for storage until the second coming of Christ or beyond. If you are doing your own preparation of things that lend themselves to repackaging for extreme term storage, it is as good as any.

i found that Kroger has the best price on beans (better than walmart,GFS,Marsh ect...) but GFS had the best price for rice i found in indy 20.00 for 50 lbs. also their dried onion flakes were 3.49 for 12oz, much better than anywhere else. that was last weekends project

    GFS is great.
25lb bags of salt for less than $5.00(how can you can your garden or preserve meat with out it?).
Lots of dry goods and bulk goods in number 10 cans at reasonable prices.

You need no membership. We have even made a few custom orders from them with out a membership(by paying cash at the store and having a "pick up" order). Pay cash and unlike Sam's Club you remain anonymous, that to me could be worth a great deal.

Sams Club has good deals on vitamins, medical supplies, and hygene items from time to time as well. Does GFS supply these items?

They always seemed a bit pricey to me. No discount unless you join the club/business deal.

I work at GFS in fort Wayne and there is no club to join to buy stuff. Public :welcome: If u have a business and buy a lot of stuff u can get a discount. Come check us out. We are a family owned Christian company.

If u only want single items Walmart may be cheaper, but if u r buying a lot it's a good deal.

My SHTF plan is to go to work :):

I think if you pay closer attention, you will find that sams club is not only more expensive on prices, but you also have to pay for a membership. Seriously, a LOOONG time ago they had better prices but not anymore. Bring a calculator next time you go and do some math, then go to the kroger/meijer/walmart and do the same math. They charge for the "convenience" of bulk which you often then have to split up and repackage.....
