Forty five years ago when my offspring were kids we used to take half a dozen seedlings (usually apple seedlings) with us on vacation and plant them in various parks or farmers woodlot fringes (with their permission).

I’m just wondering if any of you try to plant any old variety self-pollinating trees or berry bushes etc. to try to leave something for wildlife or future generations. Trees like Osage orange can be used to perfect runways and channel deer if you prune them to hedges for a few years.

River cane, planted along river banks can re-introduce them and they can be used by future primitive hunters who want to preserve the sport for arrow shafts.

I haven’t hunted since my last back operation twenty years ago but the plantings and giving back were something I really enjoyed doing.
