Recently just picked up a 9mm conversion barrel for my 23. Curious to the guys running conversion barrels what ammo have you had the best/worst luck with for range usage? The barrel is a StormLake standard length if that helps at all, I'll also be running magpul and ets mags with the conversion barrel.

Run it like normal, but you can shoot lead bullets now with no worries.

Years ago, I had a G23 with a Lone Wolf 40/9 barrel and it was a tack driver.
Much more accurate than the G19 I had at the time.

Main thing is proving it's going to be 100% reliable.
Shoot all kinds of ammo through it, mix it up, run it hard.

Yep run whatever ammo you want. Use the 9mm barrel for the range and switch back to 40 for carry. No biggie.

Thanks guys! Vert thats the plan as of now is to run the 9mm barrel for the range while I build up a stock of 40 ammo to practice with, then carry with the 40. Eventually I plan on buying a 19 and setting it up with the same parts but currently can't find anyone wanting to trade for an subcompact xd 40.

I reload 9mm and 45. My G23 is one of only two .40s I have left. I would trade it off for a G19 or G17 but with all the tacti timmies berating 40 right now nobody would want it. Besides the conversion works great and the gun is broke in nicely. Never had a problem with the G23.

I've had a good enough experience with my G23 running the Storm Lake 40-9 barrel that I sold off both of my G19s last year. Vert, I really with I had one of those left to swap you 19 for a 23. I ended up letting both go cheaply.

I would have considered it for no other reason than to simplify and consolidate. I have no criticism of the G23 or the .40 cartridge. I carried this particular gun for several years.

I also have a Glock 23 with a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel. I do reload with 4 grains of Titegroup and have fired 800+ rounds with zero problems. My wife, who has only fired about 20 rounds ever, prefers the 23 over the smaller M & P Shield. It's just a smooth shooting gun.

Don't worry, I did not read any criticism in your post. I meant none in mine also. I just keep kicking myself over letting the pair of G19s go cheap and really wish I had simply traded with someone that more into the G19 than they are the G23. My attention may have moved more in the 1911 direction, with a hint of CZ flavor, but I'll always regard my G23 as one of the best balanced pistols available. It's hard to beat the combination of capacity, caliber and concealability.

Right now 23s are going cheap enough to where I think it'd be cheaper to buy a 23 along with a conversion barrel and other 9 parts. I was really hoping I'd like the XD subcompact 40 but after running a couple of mags through each the glock took the cake!

Just ordered a LW 9mm barrel for my older (no Gen marking) G23. Are Gen 4 Model 19 magazines going to be compatible? Thanks.

They should work fine. I've got a LW conversion coming in today for my Gen3 G22. I'll be using Gen4 mags with it.

Mine gen 3 23 from 07 runs gen 4 mags just fine.

Also, that same gun with my LW conversion barrel runs and shoot like a dream. I shoot it suppressed also with my osprey 45 and have not had a malfunction with any type of ammo I've put through it.

My StormLake conversion barrel is supposed to be in today from Dvor, doesn't seem like thats going to happen. Hopefully it'll be in before I head off to shoot tomorrow so I can run a couple hundred rounds through it with the magpul mags I picked up.

My LW barrel showed up this afternoon. I installed a G17 extractor, ejector, spring loaded bearing and striker yesterday and I've got an ETS clear magazine to play with as well. Hopefully I can get back to work next week and try everything out.

Why did you replace the Extractor and Ejector? The conversion barrel should be offset just enough to compensate.

    Oh and cool gun!

I sometimes carry my G23 with the Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel and the Gen4 9mm recoil spring. I've got hundreds of rounds through it, from 115 grain to 147 grain, crap ammo and premium defensive ammo, and it has never missed a beat. It seems to shoot smoother than a G19 that I sold a while back, and without chucking brass into my face like the G19. The Lone Wolf barrels are very slightly offset so that the G23 extractor properly engages the casing. No issues with the G23 ejector, either. Runs like a champ, one handed, limp wristing, upside down.....I've tested it with all of the types of ammo that I use and in every way that I might fire it. I trust it completely.

Those blind marked barrels look so much better then the ones with the ugly wolf burned into the top.
