I need some ideas. My brake lines on my 2002 chevy truck are badly rusting. Really bad rusting and I think they are unsafe. How much do you think it will be to replace them? $1,000 $1,500?

We did mine for about $80 on my 88 Chevy. Did my daughter's car (back lines only) for about the same.

Shop would have been at least $800 for her car. The trucks are much easier to do...easier to get to everything.

Did my daughters truck and bought a line kit fro chevy. They recently started offering these. Everything comes prebent which i really a nice bonus. Price was a bit under $100 and included everything i needed. Her truck is a 2000 1500 with abs which is probably more(more lines involved) than if you dont have abs.

It has ABS and it is well beyond what I did on the Mustang. If I had a lift, a real pipe bender and flare tool I might take it on. The wife did not say yes to the lift, when I told her. She was listening better today. It is a two person job and I'll pass on doing it.

Buy a coil of line, a flare tool, tubing bender, and fittings from a local parts house and do them yourself. Keep the master cylinder full (keep air out of the ABS system). Do them yourself for under $200. If a shop does them prepare for the :spend:.

I replaced the line from the front to back on my truck this past winter/early spring. I have less than 100 in parts and the bending tool. I used the pre-made lengths of line and fittings.

The shop I called quoted $300 without seeing it "could be cheaper". FWIW -2001 F250

I had these guys do mine last winter on a 2000, 2500 Xtra cab, short bed and it was $500. I would have normally done this, but man it is a job. Especially dealing with the block where all the lines come in on the frame rail....and you mess that up it is $300-$500 for the part. Ask these guys for a price.....if they tell you over $500....offer them $500. Home Page
