I have been following the discussion on an original article published last week. It concerns the GOA. While all of this has taken place within the last few days I thought some here might find it interesting to watch it unfold.

Here's the link: Gun Owners of America linked to Soros & Marxist McChesney’s Free Press think tank | RedState

Since the NRA seems to be throwing Harry Read a bone it seems a lot of people are closely following this 2nd Amendment issue. It will be interesting to see if a national organization actually listens to their members or if they become another version AARP who collects money from members to support government policies.

Hang in there - it's going to be an interesting final few months of 2010.:patriot:

C'mon folks.. Net neutrality HUGELY important to gun owners! Without net neutrality, "insert name of anti-gun network owning corporation here" can simply say "we're not carrying that traffic". Not supporting net neutrality is akin to supporting a corporate takeover on the flow of information.

^this. When your existance is at stake you may be suprised who you become friends with to ensure that the greater/common enemy does not kill you both.

Didn't your mom ever tell you to pick your friends carefully? I understand where you're coming from, however, making comprises to gain a position only leaves you in a comprised situation later.:nono:

Why can't these organizations just have a position and stick to it?

GOA has had a position on Net Neutrality since around 2005 or better. Doesn't matter that there are other people whom we dislike that share the position.

QFT. Issues are independent of the people that support them when judged against absolute standards. Even the left gets some things right, though it's usually for the wrong reasons. ;)

Here's my take on this at the moment. At one time GOA may have been well intentioned with the support of the Net Neutrality Act as it may have been presented at the time. Secondly, if they remain a charter member of an organization they must either still approve of the ideals the organization promotes or the direction of the organization has mutated into something else. In which case, they may either; a) not be aware of those changes or b) possibly jumped on a bandwagon, which seemed well intentioned.

My suggestion of the compromise is; if they were aware of those changes and did not rescind their membership in that organization when the policy changed into something else they could no longer support.

Perhaps it's a simple oversight on their part. I'm not suggesting GOA has done anything wrong, but rather their membership in that organization could be misinterpreted as if they continue to support any and all efforts of that organization or those of other members. That could be a compromising situation to explain to your members, if they start to ask questions.

Now that this has been brought out into the sun, so to speak, I think it would be worthwhile to follow the story to see what a final position will be.

I have heard of keep your friends close, and your enemies closer, but
IMHO, they both (GOA, and NRA), will probably get the SHAFT, big time.
The left, is loyal, to no one, except the left..... nuff said...

Overstepping the constitutional bounds of the commerce clause which now invades almost every piece of our daily lives.

Once you let the camel's nose in the tent, you'll never get it back out without killing the camel and dragging it out.

Income tax was "a temporary measure" when it was passed to pay off the war debt. Now how many pages of IRS tax codes do we have?

But isn't socialism in defense of something that benefits you laudable? It's humorous to see on this thread the impassioned defenses of government as the solution and as the great protector.
