Good 1911 smith in NWI or as close as I can get.

Going to be purchasing a "project 1911." My buddy passed away, and im assuming he was in the progress of doing something to this Springfield Armory TRP Full rail operator. Im going to purchase the gun, and send it off to have it finished, and looked over to make sure everything is how it should be. I have ZERO experience with 1911s and would like to have someone with some knowledge get this gun finished up. I live in northwest indiana, and would like to get someone that is within an hour so i can drive there and talk in person. If that is not an option, what are some other good places that you all would recommend if i had to ship it.

Mail it to AllenM. He is a very qualified 1911 smith and an FFL. He has done some very serious work for me.

Had a problem with my 1911 at Willow Slough and the RO referred me to this guy. He fixed it in about two minutes.

Do Not, repeat do not ever go to Gutridge. How much damage are you willing to accept from a gunsmith? Go somewhere else. That's why I make the drive to from NWI to Avon to see AllenM. Don't find out the hard way.

Plenty of other INGOers with similar bad experience with Gutridge. Search and see.

Sounds good. I sent him a PM. Not even really sure what i want/need done. It definitely needs to be refinished so i asked if he was able to do that in shop.

Oh yes. He has done several for me and has one of mine right now.
