I do it a little differently.
I print out the item I am looking for. From somewhere with the part number or UPC (they prefer for some reason). I mark out the price, though they can look it up anyway.
I get one of three:
I can't get that.
I can't get a good price.
I can beat everyone's price by $XX.
That is fair. I don't drive an extra 20 or 38 miles to the next two closest stores though.
