As a 100% American-Greek I have always said I was born here for a reason.

As an American-Greek when I was young (in the 1970's) I was always asked, oh do you read Greek Mythology? Do you ever go to Greece? Do you have family there?

WTF people, are we profiling here? Yes I love Tirpoita, Spanikopita, Mousaka, Baklava, can cook them all and more and my middle name is Socrates.

Yes, I read mythology. Some even say the Burning Bush may have been a drug induced halucination.

I also started saying "No, I have no desire to go hang out in Greece with my cousins. They don't like us anyway. Many there seem to think no one in America speaks Greek. Yeah, they do and they clearly understand all the crap you are saying about them and America while they are standing right there in front of you."

By 1980 it morphed into "I was born here for a reason. I have no desire to spend my money to go hang out in that Socialist Sh**hole."

So now we come to today. The Greek people will vote No on the referendum and accountability. The Germans will then hopefully just say NO to welfare and a bail out. Greece will burn. The images of this will paint a vivid picture of Obama's dream for Americas future. In a society driven by sound bites and images this will go a long way in 2012. A picture is worth a 1000 words but video also happens to capture the words.

The birthplace of Democracy will burn and in doing so will save its offspring. All we need is the birthplace of Nazism to let it happen.

Evolution continues. I find the first ironic and the second a good return on our investment in WWII.

    Alternate vision:

This all throws markets into decline. We go through a second crisis. This crisis is blamed on capitalism. We implement more "fixes" that take us farther towards Greece.

Never underestimate the power of politicians and the media to alter perception at the expense of reality.

Barney Frank first screams that Fanny and Freddie and mortgages are fine, two years later he's screaming at the people who followed HIS policies for their greed which he now says caused the crisis. And the band played on.

I agree. I only posted one specific chain of events and that is why I said "may save." How it hits our economy is a huge X factor but I think the real X factor is how we react to it when it does hit. All our realites will collide at the voting booth in 2012..............and maybe on the streets. No one really knows.

I also agree that how it gets spun is huge. We know what Michael Moore will say.

Continued economic failure plus 4 more years of Obama I think leads to a true decade of depression. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. A true depression would bring back the extended family and that is not bad at all. Our family has planned for both. We are very mobile right now. Afterall, we all came from immigrants, most of whom were capable of fighting. We can always go down that path again.

Greece is not in our control unless we vote to pay all their bills. That is a real possibility. Obama does not want Greece to implode. Maybe Ron Paul stops him in his tracks and rises to the top for doing so?

Greece is just the spark for the coming worldwide economic upheaval.

Reguardless of Obama or the next president, the US is in a blackhole and there is no will in Washington to fix it.

Just like Greece the takers won't backdown.

I am thinking that for sure. The Global economy is like dominos right now and our total lack of leadership leaves us exposed.

I can honestly say in our home and immediate family TARP and export of jobs to China have had dramatic impacts in recent years and months. So while trying to weigh a new opportunity, we are thinking it is best to delay and revist after the start of the new year. If we miss out, so be it, this may be a giant toilet flush we want to avoid.

Start with a study on the history of the Olympics. That will help you figure it out.

If you can't connect olive oil, thousands of years spent on on an island and historical data, I can't do it for you.

There were ways off the island

I think the elections of 2012 are going to affect the country in a massive way for the next several decades, if not the foundation of the future of our country. I'm not talking Dem/Repub, I'm talking candidates that believe in true, free, accountable Capitalism and sound money or BigGovernment and BigFed. We're at a crossroads - get involved! :patriot:

My missing it......................only made it better! You are OK.

Leave it to ATM to bring up the rear with the Brothers Behind crack. Sometimes people were voted off the island too.
I just hope the riots don't hit the olive oil supplies before I stock up tomorrow.

On a serious note, I do think this is an interesting moment in our history. Maybe not, but hard to imagine it isn't.

My observation was as pure as the driven snow, exemplifying the virtues of enduring fraternal loyalty.

You're the one loading your sentences with the likes of "up the rear", "crack" and whatnot. :@ya:

I am trying to come up with another slow pitch for you to hammer, one that won't get the thread locked, but you kind of took it to a dead end here.
