I am not sure if this is the right area for this but here it is. Assuming a assault rifle gun ban goes into affect like the one under Clinton, How will that affect availability of ammo and parts for AR rifles (barrels, mags, charging handles, springs, etc.)? Would this only make the manufacturing and purchasing of new semi auto AR style rifles illegal or will our pre existing ones become illegal as well? Thanks

NY currently lives under the same constraints as the federal assault weapons ban of 94. There is enough room to put together an AR and still legally own one, currently. I assume that will change in the next assault weapons ban. (Currently: no high cap mags, no threaded on muzzle break/flash hider/ no bayonet lug, no collapsible stock.)

The exception are "pre-ban" magazines. You can run a high cap mag if it was manufactured before the ban, but i'm not too informed on the details of this.
