Gun Buy Back coming to East Chicago, IN

The gun buy-back will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29 at the following locations: United Steel Workers Local 1010, at 3703 Euclid Ave.; East Chicago Fire Station No. 1, at 3901 Indianapolis Blvd., near Tod Park; and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, at 4756 Melville Ave.

Might find some nice guns at the event.

I found one of the flyers at the South Shore Train Station for the event.

$75 gift card for trade in gun.
$25 goft card for broken/damaged gun.

Turn-In Procedure
1. Gun must be delivered unloaded
2. Gun must be put in a clear plastic bag, and put into another container (gym bag, backpack, etc)
3. If depositing ammunition in addition to gun, ammunition must be delivered in a seperate bag
4. If transporting the gun by car, gun must be transported in the truck of the car
5. After the gun is screened by officers, and determined to be working firearm, a gift card will be given
6. Rifles and Shotgons will be accpeted

Duct Tape it back together. Besides it's a gun buy back it does not have to be a USEABLE gun just a gun!

read the article online and am not sure about the date. article was written on friday, march 25, and said it was supposed to happen "next Wednesday", which would be march 30. it then later mentions april 29, so anyone interested in the event may want to confirm the date. wish i had a few extra bucks so i could outbid the city if anything of quality was available.

The ACTUAL GUN BUY BACK in on 29 APRIL 2011 at 3 locations.
30 MAR 2011 there is a luncheon to "kick off" the gun buy back program in the city. (ie. Read: political fund raiser event)

Yes shooting it destroyed it to the point that it was unsafe to use.

It was unrepairable and thereby to avoid anybody using an unsafe
weapon in the future I completely rendered it "inert".

Except that it appears that money is coming from PRIVATE groups like unions, companies, churches. Not sure that this is really a "government" program. In fact in the vast majority of so-called 'buy-back' programs around the nation there is little to no government (your tax $$$) money involved.

I am against any union dues going to anything that involves politics or gun buy backs.

The article isn't clear about the source of compensation nor what the compensation would be.
The article IS clear in that the perpetrators of this scheme blame the tool and not the operator for problems in that shining city.
