What would you arrest him for?

the original video only showed him making the barrel cut, not the receiver cut, since the video only showed the barrel cut, the gun would still function as a single shot sbr, since sbr's are illegal in new York, he violated both state and federal law with his manufacturing a sbr without a tax stamp, and possession of a sbr in a state where they are verboten.

but in this case the media (I know big shock) didn't report the whole story by showing the complete video with the end results

He didn't make the receiver cut in the first video. He created an sbr.

If some criminal breaks into his home and kills him I bet he will wish he hadn't cut up his AR

That'd be a pretty dangerous argument to make, that something in the process of being assembled or disassembled is eligible to be a SBR, SBS, AOW, etc.

Stupidity aside, legally that's not something worth pursuing and a dangerous road to take besides.

Not a dangerous road. Cannot go into NFA territory during the process.
    Dipstick should have known.
One cut through receiver and done. But no.................two cuts is more dramatic.
His intent may not have been an SBR.............but he made one.
    And did it on camera.
    Burn his ass.

Would any here calling this an SBR be willing to pull the trigger? :dunno:

Having never cut a barrel, I can only imagine that a chop saw isn't going to leave the end clean enough to fire safely.

Besides, with the gas tube cut, I won't exactly call the gun functioning.

Let's just call him an idealistic idiot and forget about felon.

He didn't pop the top and cut it.
He cut the bbl short on a complete rifle.
    Doesn't matter.
Bloomberg will have him over for dinner, use him as poster child of NY gun owners........pay for whatever legal mess there is.

So making a single shot SBR on video is OK?

Dude on video cut it nowhere near 16".
Had the saw............just cut the receiver and be done.
He had it staged..........was not just "spur of the moment" so he had time to plot the friggin' cut.
    Fry his stupid ass.
Example time............a proper one (not the one he's trying to be).

it will still shoot, it will basically be a bolt action rifle, ie 1 shot, pull the charging handle back to chamber the second shot, and therefore still a functioning weapon, and remember if you put an attachment on a gun that quiets the sound by even 1 decibel you have made a "silencer" and are in violation of the nfa, if you do the bubba ar15 trigger job, and the gun go's bang bang, instead of bang...you've made a machine gun! and are in violation of the nfa!

to truly remove a weapon from the nfa it has to be cut in 3 spots to make 4 pieces, by a torch to make reassembly difficult, and the aft's diagram shows 3 cuts for a ar15/m16
    View attachment 64178

so the idealistic idiot is in violation of the nfa! will he see a pair of handcuffs, no, but this "Bloomberg/mda/everytown/giffords" will get his 15 minutes of fame!

I kinda agree with you and I think it's a dumb law anyways. My point being that some in the gun industry who are out there and vocal do have a target on their backs and if they had done what he did even innocently in intention I believe they would come down on them.

Going on the hill to preach morality.........proly ought not to do that with one's d*ck hanging out of their pants (the NFA oops).
That IMHO is what the video guy did.
Threw other AR owners under the bus doing it.
    Wolf in sheep's clothing.
Liberal disguised as a moderate..........a used to be "one of us".
    He's either stupid, unstable............or sinister.
    Proly all three.
    And having dinner with Bloomberg.
