As with everything in life, we tend to make everything a competition. Many times people do it subliminally.

    Houses, vehicles, clothes, spouses, etc.

People like to do this with firearms. So be it..whatever. I won't police that. Policing deeply ingrained human behavior is a losing battle.

Never gave a damn about keeping up w the Joneses.
Want stuff that works well for me.

Married w kids, job not the best years ago, I've done without.

Hell the ol lady told me to drop 900 for a used 20 gauge yesterday.
Got the $ sitting in my toy fund.
    I'm still a tightwad.

Been rabbit hunting 4 times the last decade. So pushing a grand for a rabbit gun seems silly.
    But it is nice.

I want a nice 20 ga. Just because.

Ive owned a lot of cheap guns, from hi-points on up. My first home/carry gun was a little Bersa Thunder 380, paid less than $150 for it new. I love looking at nice expensive 1911's but will stick with my Rock Island Tactical 9mm, works well for me, has the options I want. Definitely not a snob lol

@ the corner of IN, KY & OH.
I started out with an Astra Constable II for $199 that I had on layaway for a couple months. Since then I have had lots of "better" guns, but will always remember that one with alot of fondness.

I want to be a gun snob. I’m sitting here, smoking my $8 cigar, drinking a bit of mid level bourbon, sitting surrounded by $3 Tiki torches and carrying the best gun that $399 can buy. I think I’m in the club.

Fun video. Reminds me of ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’. Most of you have probably read the first half of that at one time or another. Somewhere in there, while he’s riding along over thinking the meaning of ‘Quality’, he touches on the idea of quality delivering the expected experience or something like that.

His definition of a high quality object is in it’s ability to deliver on the expected experience. In other words, if you don’t pay much, and don’t expect a lot, a cheaper item can deliver on it’s promise better than an item costing much more, meaning that the quality of a budget item can sometimes make you happier than a top dollar item that delivers a similar experience.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve read that book and I might be wrong. I don’t know. Would my experience here in the back yard be better if the bourbon cost $200 a bottle instead of $50 and the cigar cost $20 instead of $8? Probably not.

I think from your other post... you could've been smoking a black and mild and drinking Tito's and still had a great night with your company... :yesway:

    Everyone needs a nice 20 gauge :):

i figure anyone that that has a nicer gun than me is a snob.

    I'd like a Merkel O/U.........new MSRP is 5K.
Proly end up w a used SKB for a grand.

    Good enough for me.

Hell I'd like another 870 Special Field. But they're getting silly priced (for what they are).

Aint rabbit hunted but 4 times in a decade.
Cuz hunts grouse, but dog too old. When he gets a pup trained I might.

Not a snob...........just kill stuff once in a while.
Grew up shooting Smiths and Colts my dad had.
Ruger #1 w Leupold in jr high was my chuck blaster.
    Still like me a #1.
Had one, RSI for deer. Rather have an A model.
Sold my RSI and am running a beater 760 Remington in .35 rem.
    Doesn't bother me at all.
    It's well worn.
    Gives me a spot for a clean 1A w good wood :)

I aint afraid to push the creek bottom with this pig

Somebody once mentioned the Python's wear. Of course the critic had no Python.
    Honestly, I like a 686 better.
But killing stuff w a Python, not everybody does it :)

IMHO if one is going to shoot small deer, use cool stuff.

Friggin gun worth more than the 4x4 that hauled the deer home.
Don't give a damn about trying to impress anybody.

Seen a lot of nice shiny new car folks buying clunker guns.
Hey it's their money, spend it however they want.

When I saw Merkel Helix Explorer from 3K down to 2K...........thought I'd get one w part of tax return.
Did not have the one I wanted, so looked at Steyr CLII.
    1600..................not bad.
In research noticed the old Pro Hunters discontinued, and blow out priced.
    Looked at them yrs ago.
    40% off................uh, that'll work :)

Not got premium glass on it. Might upgrade later.
So have around 1100 total in my rainy day Indiana deer rifle.

Yup, won't kill a deer any more dead than an entry level rifle w package scope.
Bullet through the lungs is bullet through the lungs.
    My Steyr PH is ugly.

    Ugly cool.

    :)
