    I feel that even if it's private property, as long as government business is conducted there then all laws should be allowed on the property..

    I just read the story and saw the writer's complete distortion of Sen. Jim Tomes view on open carry at polling places. I can guarantee that he does not feel that we should all show up open carrying. This is just another in a long, long line of stories that I have a personal knowledge of that are distorted, inaccurate or down right sloppy reporting.

    My polling station is at a church with a school and you have to walk down the hall of school past the classes and if you go during school time kids are there. So I dont think in my case it would be wise to OC. Please people use your heads.

    If there's a school at your polling place (church) or your polling place IS a school...

    Then the laws governing the possession of firearms on school property still apply.

    I noticed that part too and I thought the same thing when I read it.

    Ok, you legal eagles, this polling place/church/school thing needs to be settled.

    If a church also runs a school during the week I guess that's a no-brainer.

    If all they run are things like a Sunday School, and there are no students of any kind present on election day, does that make them a school?

    If it EVER meets the State's definition of a school, then it is ALWAYS a school. No students need be present. Heck, it can be an empty lot surrounded by corn fields, and still be a school.

    Sunday School is not a school by IC. Non-licensed daycare ministries (church-run daycare) are not a school. A Youth Group does not a school make. The Indiana definition of a School has been posted a few hundred times (once even this week), and is in the FAQ. It is very specific.

    shows no comments when I checked the link. Hrm... I wonder if they haven't moderated it yet to approve, or deleted it :)
    I've noticed that myself. I guess I'll just have to salve my bruised commentator's ego and quote IC 3-5-4-4 here.

    IC 3-5-4-4
    Immunity from arrest while at or going to and from polls
    Sec. 4. A voter is not subject to arrest while going to the polls, while in attendance there, and while returning from the polls. However, this section does not apply in a case of:
    (1) treason;
    (2) felony; or
    (3) breach of the peace.
    As added by P.L.5-1986, SEC.1.
