I've had both good and bad looking for a car in the last couple of months. Walked into a dealer to look at a fairly rare sportscar (Lotus) . Had cash in my pocket but I am guessing that because I was in jeans and a T-shirt no one wanted to talk to me.

Now the good, went into Butler Hyundai on the north side of Indy wanting to buy a Veloster with nothing but how it came from the factory in base model. Salesman treated me nicely, and the manager who wrote the trade in and total deal marked it "good until the end of the month" which gave me 3 weeks to think about it. No pushy attitude like many places, although I knew the salesman really wanted to make the sale since with the construction on Keystone, I doubt they are getting many customers.

Didn't take me long to tell them I decided not to wait and signed the papers then and there. So there are some really good salespersons out there (Nick Kitner).

As for your HHR hassles, that makes no sense as the HHR was one of Chevy's better selling vehicles. There is no excuse for not being able to find one for you and even less than no excuse for treating you that way considering how many Chevy dealers there are in this state!

Wow, sounds like tbhey thought they were the only dealership on earth selling HHR's. Go on e-bay, or edmunds.com and I'm sure you'll find plenty of them. As far as attitude, the minute they start that crap its time to walk.

WOW!! What a bunch of crap! Thank you for outing them :yesway:

I give you credit for keeping your cool as well as you did. If that were me, oh there would have been a scene! I probably would have been escorted out.

That is just ridiculous and unacceptable!

Maybe it happened for a reason and you will find the perfect one for you at a better deal here soon. Good luck with your search :ingo:

I should send my wife there to 'negotiate' with them. She loves to play the game. Last time we dealt with a dealer she had the sales manager so mad :xmad: he showed us his purchase invoice for the car. He only made $50 on the deal but the car had been sitting on his lot for 6 months.

I set a few rules for dealing with any type of salesperson a long time ago.

    1. Do my research before ever talking to one. I know what I have and what I will accept for it. I know what I want and what I'm willing to pay for it.

    2. The first time they fail to show respect to me or anyone with me, I'm gone.

    3. I don't accept offers from them. I give them the terms I'm willing to accept.

    4. I allow them 3 attempts to meet the terms I presented. After the 3rd strike I walk.

These rules have saved me a lot of time and aggravation when it comes to buying many things including cars. :twocents:

I've run into that at bill mccoy ford in muncie, and both the Toyota and Hyundai dealerships in Richmond. Twice walked into the old rex appliance store with cash in hand, and couldn't talk them into taking my money. It's all about proper customer service, baby.

    Reminds me of UPS.

Save your $$$ and drive the vehicle you have. Pay it off. Buy something of value like another home, firearms or take your wife on a very nive vacation.

Don't enslave yourself to a junk vehicle that will depreciate faster than you can pay it off. (and they are ALL junk and not worth the $$$)

Last week (nov 21st) I was in a town about 30 mins from my home for work so I thought I would stop in and ask about a HHR. I have been looking for a few weeks for the perfect one for me with little luck. Talk with the salesman he said he doesn't have it on the lot but can get in. Then he asks me to put a down payment on the car, told him I'm not putting money on a car I have not seen yet. But if it is what you promise and we can come to a deal on my trade I will take it.

My wife and I went over on Sat to test drive the HHR and let him look at our trade. We drive the car it looks like what I want, does have some scratches and a dent nothing I can't live with. It took the salesman 10 mins to say anything to my wife and that is only after I introduce her so he doesn't have a choice. We go to talk prices and was told "Your trade isn't worth what we thought so we can't do anything extra to the HHR". I'm thinking ok I haven't ask for anything extra at this point. I then asked does it come with two keys and remotes? He said it only came with one. On my first trip I told him I want to have two and as he was a Chevrolet dealer that should be easy for him to program it and save me $100 he agreed then to give me two. At this point he has a attitude and has changed the deal. He does agree to get us another key and remote but it might take a few days to find one.

We walked out side and told my wife the car has just about everything. I would like running boards and rain guards to be my "perfect" car but those aren't deal breakers I can add those my self if I have to. When we came back in I told him we want to talk it over at dinner so can we get our keys (our trade in). A manager walks over, my wife and I hold out our hands to take the keys. He all but pushes between us to throw them on the table. "The deal is today only" and walks off. That this point I'm getting upset but I will be nice for the deal.

I told the salesman "I'm I firm believer if God wants me to have this car I will get it, so if the deal is diff on Monday and I don't get the HHR so be it." He then tells me "I think God wants you to have this car and maybe you can ask Santa to get it for you".

At this point I tell him I don't need attitude and there are lots of other HHRs have a good day.

Don't be rude to my wife.
Don't go back on your word.
    Don't be rude to me.
    Don't belittle my faith.

I heard last night the dealer ship was bought a few months ago so they have new management I guess. Talked to a guy his father in-law bought trucks from this dealer for years and a few weeks ago went in to get another new one he had a bad experience with salesmen and won't buy another truck from them. So looks like I am not the only one.

Dealer is City Chevrolet in Columbia city **Added dealer name

Pay in cash and if you can't afford it that way, you don't need it.

I don't think businesses realize the power of " word of mouth." Customers talk, good and bad. When I worked in a salon, most of my clients were referrals from other people. I worked commission, and I bet so do car salesmen. I can't believe that he didn't go above and beyond to make a sale!
