I'd guess the media would pee on themselves in a combination of glee and terror (think of the ratings!). Then the politicians would line up and wait for the first gun-related crime or ND so they could pounce.

Petty crime would likely plummet. If everyone followed Kirk's advice and STOP TOUCHING IT, violent crime would likely drop as well.

The average man wouldn't care after a couple of days.
