we wore electronic muffs for the first time this year, due to using a 308. I noticed you have super sonic hearing in the direction the mic is pointed. Ears stayed warm, but you lose the ability to tell which direction a noise is coming from also. traditionally adrenaline takes over at the time of the shot and have never experience ringing after a "real" world shot.

I started taking ear plugs this year. I shot my 450 BM with a muzzle brake on it, once last year without protection and my ears rang for 3 days. I wish, now, that I would have started the practice 30 years ago.

In the blind, shooting out the window, the 30-06 is really mild sounding. I don't notice any ringing whatsoever.

I do plug my ears when my buddy shoots his ported .44 mag revolver.

I have a pair of Peltor Tac Sport. They are great for everything from the range to hunting. Great at cancelling those sharp noises and amplify talking noise nicely. And they ring in at about 80 bucks.
