    Hey guys,

    I need some guidance.

I have 3 small parts that are going to need hot blue. Yes, I can cold blue, but blah...and this is not a blah project. It also needs more durability.

The parts will require zero prep by the time I am done with them.

Catch: needs done soon. Christmas soon. I’ll probably have to drive the parts there soon.

So who, preferably in the middle 1/3 of the State, has hot blue tanks going all the time?

    Thanks!
    -Nate

I settled on using a lead melter with a small quantity of blueing salts to straw color parts for the Luger I plan to restore one of these days. Perhaps this at a higher temperature would get the job done.

Rust bluing is beautiful and durable, when done correctly. It is not difficult, just time consuming. If you have patience and attention to detail, I would encourage you to consider it.

It is MUCH better than regular cold bluing.

Hahaha! Nah. Can’t be done, brother. :D

There is zero doubt about that. I am fully willing to do all of the above. The issue though is that the rest of the weapon is reg’lar hot blue, and this is only intended to match, and be relatively durable. I might rust it in the future, but time is not on my side here.

    Great suggestion though.

Much appreciated, but I have no bluing on the horizon.

Might try Mast Gun Works or T&D Metal works.

Thanks, Brett. I actually had looked up your page, and I didn’t think you did bluing. I’d forgotten about T&D! I’ll give both of those shops a call tomorrow.

Thanks, everybody, and keep it coming!

I got ahold of T&D pretty easily today. Given that, I’ll work with them on this little project.

Thank you to all of you for your help!!
