A while back I picked up a sporterized 1903 along with a couple other guns. The action is a Remington made in May 1942 (I think) and the barrel is RA 12-41. It sits in a M2 stock and has a Lyman rear site. After looking online I have seen a couple others that look almost identical. I believe the gentleman that I bought it from used to shoot NRA matches with it. Was this a kit, a common set up, or just an old bubba job? Anymore info would be appreciated.

From my copy of Brophy's "The Springfield 1903 Rifles" it appears you have an NBA Sporter.

I would research more on the receiver age and manufacturer. As you see in the text above, Springfield only made this variant in 1926 which could make your rifle extremely rare. Good luck!

I originally thought it was a NRA sporter but they are marked with a star at the end of the barrel and mine does not. This is the first I've heard of the NBA sporter but mine is out of the production dates for it. I guess it might have been his way to copy those factory guns.

I would not assume the barrel is original. The NRA would happily rebarrel a rifle upon request at the National Matches. Can you post a pic of the receiver roll mark?
