I grabbed this 1912 SMLE at in-laws and outlaws in Gas City 2 years back for $300 after they purchased a lot from an estate sale. I was wondering if any milsurp experts could help me make heads or tails of the markings? I’m assuming it’s import markings, since the rifle does not appear to have been updated post war. Also, any help valuing the piece would be appreciated

I'm no expert, but it looks like its marked as a true MKIII, not a MkIII*, and still has the magazine disconnect installed, which would be correct for the era.

Value will also depend on the bore condition, all the military ammo the Brit’s made was corrosive

The crown and GR is for King George. Some of the other marks are likely proof marks. Technically it's a ShtLE (Short Lee Enfield). Basically the same as the SMLE (Short Magazine Lee Enfield) which was a later naming convention I believe.

    Very Cool!
I’m always looking for these early pre war enfields.
All I see in the pics is the BSA logo and several military proofs and the BNP proof which is just basically showing a proof load was fired from it.

Does your rifle have a the volley sights on the left side?

Also check you rear sight if it has a windage adjustment. This would be the earliest mk III configuration. The windage adjustment was was later removed or pinned solid
