Am thinking about getting new grips for my Ruger Mk III. The factory-installed plastic stuff is getting to me. So I'm thinking of getting either the cocobolo grips with a thumbrest:

    Hogue-MK-II_III-RH-Grips-Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc.

or the Hogue wrap around grip with thumbrest. Here's a web listing (no endorsement of the vendor implied):

Rimfire Sports & Custom: Hogue Ruger Mark II Grip w/Thumbrest

It sounds like you'd have to modify the grip a bit to fit the Mk III, which is what some other vendors' sites say.

The cocobolo definitely will make the gun look more handsome, but I get the feeling I may shoot better with the Hogue.

Has anyone compared these two grips? Can you characterize how they feel?

    Thanks for the help!

    Not that big a deal

It is not that big a deal to modify the rubber grips from Hogue. They have a marked area that needs to be cut out to work with the MKIII's. Same grip works on MKII or MKIII. The instructions are pretty clear and they are good feeling grips.

I cannot speak to the cocobolo gribs, but I will say that the hogue grips similar to what you've linked to with the thumbrest have been a good addition to 2 of my guns. I'll also agree with SImon6101 the instruction and direction for install from Hogue is very clear.

    Enjoy.
