My name is Dan Koch, President of Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari. I am the proud owner of a gun, but I follow park rules and do not bring my gun to Holiday World as that is our rule. I am not against private gun ownership at all. I respect private property owners’ rights to determine what you can or cannot bring onto someone else’s property. The Second Amendment only applies to the GOVERNMENT trying to prevent gun ownership. Holiday World is not the GOVERNMENT and therefore we are free to allow or ban weapons on our premises. We have chosen not to allow weapons on our premises. Please understand that this rule is in place for the safety of all of our park guests. It may well be that you would be safe with your gun, but we cannot guarantee that everyone would use the proper precautions. Please respect our right to make this decision. This same constitutional principle allows us to control foul language at the park. You are free to use foul and offensive language in your own homes as protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. However, we as private property owners are free to control foul or offensive speech on our private (Holiday World) property. The First Amendment right to free speech only prohibits the GOVERNMENT from restricting speech. If I was in your house and you found my speech offensive, you would have the constitutional right to tell me to leave because you found my speech offensive. Your tossing me off your property because you don’t like foul language is not GOVERNMENT action. That private property right is a right guaranteed and enjoyed by all citizens of the United States of America including Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari by the Constitution to the United States of America. I am a lawyer also, and I support the rights of individuals to choose to own weapons or not own weapons and the rights of private property owners to decide what conduct they allow on their own private property. Thanks and I hope to see you on a visit to Holiday World and Splashin' Safari this summer and in the years to come.

I agree with every point made in this post, and I am always willing to respect private property rights by staying away from properties where I am not welcome. :)

I respect Mr. Kochs view and his points however when one chooses to engage in commerce with the general public at large, private property rights actually do take a hit. If you want to maintain those property rights fully, you must remain PRIVATE and not conduct business with the PUBLIC at large. When you do, you forfeit the whole PRIVATE part. IMO...just my 2.

I'll be going back. Their security is more than sufficient, and I don't fear for my family's safety at all. Gave up ccing after the first visit. They run a clean, well maintained park with polite and friendly employees, tons to do for the whole family, world class rides, and reasonable prices. They even provide a nice campground and cabins just across the lake. How much more can one ask for for a family getaway?

No, property rights do not change because one operates a business.

    Epic fail. :noway:

So if you want to do commerce you must subjegate yourself and your property to communist rule by the communist mob? Really? No. Just hell no.

You can choose to do business with whomever you want, under whatever terms and conditions you want. You can use your property in any way you want (although in practice the government interferes with property rights too much). You want to break the rules? No. Buy the property and establish your own rules.

Anyone who understand business and liability understands risk assessment. I can think of a thousand risks with a gun in a water park. Holiday World (I am sure in close communication with their insurance company) made a business decision. It's not the one I would have made, but I'm not in their business. My only choice is to comply with their rules, in which case I may enter their property under their terms, or refuse to follow their rules, in which case I should display the personal integrity to not enter their property. It's really that simple.

I agree with ThrottleJockey on this having run a small business. It is NOT the same as a private residence and never will be in principle or law. It may not be that the law does or will say that businesses have to let LTCH holders in, but just look at the parking lot bill.

My family and I spent a great day at Holiday World, Monday, the price for entry wasn't bad, and with my company discount it was better! (ok the $21 pizza was a bit much, but free sodas....nuff said) I have to say that park was the first I've ever been to that was worth the price. The waiting times were, at times, long but the rides were worth it! We will be back !!(I left my gun in the car) The no firearms part doesn't bother me because there really is no place to store them safely, and I felt secure the whole time!

You guys keep flaunting that you're CCing there with staff from there openly on the Board are going to change the no metal detector aspect.
Then there will be a LOT of butt hurt people crying on here.

Once again, its their property, they can set the rules and tell you to leave if you break them. Don't like the rules, don't go.

I have carried to Holiday World every time I've gone. It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me, and I'm not going to be unable to protect my family there and back. However, I don't carry while I'm in the park. Not because of their rules, but it's just not practical IMO. There is no place there that you could fire a round safely. When you factor in the problems associated with securing a weapon on the rides and wearing one in the water park, it isn't worth the hassle to me. I do not like leaving a gun in a hot unmonitored vehicle either. My solution is to carry into the park in a fanny pack or a bag with clothes, towels, ect for the water park. Once inside the gun goes discreetly into one of their lockers for the day. It's cooler than the interior of my car, and with the staff nearby and the foot traffic more secure IMO. For me this is the best compromise. I have followed their rules, at least in principle, and I have my gun for the times that I want it. I don't know if anyone from Holiday world is still monitoring this thread, but if they are, I would like to offer a suggestion / request. It would be nice to have some lockers that were more secure and secluded for guests like me who would like to carry to and from the park. A system like the casinos use so that we could inform a staff member that we carrying when we enter the park and then go somewhere to secure our guns before enjoying the park. This could make Holiday World more attractive to responsible gun owners and help enforcing their rules easier for them.

I went last year for my girl's birthday. No pat downs, security, metal detectors, or wands. They do have a sign near the ticket boothes that says "no firearms, knives, etc, bazookas, etc..." Well, maybe not bazookas but you get the idea.

If you're going to be swimming or going on rides you can lock up your firearm in one of the many lockers they have in the middle of the park. Even so, I didn't carry there last year. I didn't want to keep going back and forth to the locker before, after, and inbetween rides.
