So the A/C stopped blowing cold air. I went out and cleaned the fins and everything off. When I turned it back on I noticed there is a repetitive buzzing sound every 10-15 seconds from somewhere inside the unit that lasts about a second or so. Any idea which part is bad and how much it might cost to fix? I have video of it but don't know how to post video to INGO as I don't think I have a YouTube or photobucket account.

I am by no means an ac guru, but have recently replaced
my entire system due to multiple problems with leaks( old freon...
Expensive to find the leak and recharge) and motor locking up
multiple times. It could be a bad capacitor which what originally
i thought was wrong with mine. The only thing is it is hard to find
someone you can trust to do the work some of those ac guys
can try to sell you anything.

Contactor could be bad or starter capacitor can be bad. Churchmouse will be along shortly to give more advice.

Upload video to youtube, then share it here.

Sounds as if the compressor is trying to start, but can't! You may try to start with a start capacitor, but I think you may be looking at compressor being locked up.

You might check to see if there is a recall on that model. I got a couple estimates on mine. One was for over $2000, the other was for $127.63 because of the recall.

I talked to OP. Going to look at it for him.
I will wager it is the compressor. Will check cap & contacter for single phase but most likely with the age of the machine the comp. is locked rotor.

If it's a wager we are talking I'd have to go with Clogged condenser coils causing overheating of the compressor. After sitting a few days unused it locked up. But then, I don't have wager money these days...

Yeah, no money just lunch at the aluminum room......White castle..............:)

He did wash the coils out.

Big thank you to CM for agreeing to come take a look at it. It's always nice to see folks out there willing to help each other out! Hopefully the issue doesn't require too many spendy parts. :spend:

+1 17 secs hums then shuts down (thermal overload tripping inside compressor) then resets and tries to restart at 27 secs then repeats. The compressor is FUBARED! A hard start capitor might save him until he can get the change together to repair or replace.

It is the flux capacitor. I can fix it for you, but Deloreans are hard to come by, so it will run you $100 grand.
