Anybody make their own deer summer sausage. I would like to try to make some this year, just wandering if anybody has any suggestions.

yes I make my own from time to time all you really need is some mortons tender quick cure and what ever else you want to put in your deer burger it works fine.

I've done it some and it's fun. There are tons of really good recipes on the internet. I say print off a few and give it a try. Be sure to notate the printed recipe you like or maybe number them good to best for later reference. DAMHIKT

LEM makes a pretty good kit, for fairly good price, worth the dime for a first timers. I think its about $25

Does anyone else wonder why it is called summer sausage when the meat is collected, processed and generally eaten in the fall and winter?

I always thought non refrigerated= summer.
