Went today for the first time and saw a sign at the interest saying no firearms but also that you would be detained by security and subject to all applicable laws or something along those lines. So it is illegal to carry there or are they just overstepping their bounds by claiming they can detain people?

If you dig into the ic and iac concerning non-riverboat casinos, you will find that the same laws govern non-riverboat casinos.
I'd do it but i'm on my phone and it is a pain.

Thanks, I knew riverboat casinos were out but this is not on a riverboat and doesn't have the same rules (no live card games etc) so I didn't know if that would apply

It applies and Hoosier park unlike most riverboats does not have a designated place to store your firearms while patronizing the establishment.

when I asked at the door there I was told to lock it in the car where as in Evansville and lawarnceburg they had a place I could check it in and retrieve it as I left.

you can request a security guard escort to your car/truck. Not much else to do but not patronize.

I haven't been to Hoosier Park in awhile, but I think the person you spoke to at the door was either lazy, ignorant or just "shining" you. Hoosier Park would be in direct violation of 68 IAC 1-7-1 if they do not provide a secure place to store a patron checked firearm.

That place made me go back to the car to ditch my pocketknife.
*Note to others-take the clip off of your pocket before entering if you use a clip style EDC*

AFAIK, IN Grand has the same rules/ownership/etc. as Hoosier Park. I went through the process at IN Grand just so I would know the game. I had been told by security, on a previous visit, that the gun had to be unloaded. What they didn't tell me was you have to leave the ammo in your vehicle. They had me place the gun in the lock box along with copies they made of my DL and LTCH. The box was just barely large enough for the Glock M23 I had with me. When you leave, security will unlock the box for you. Not advocating for them, just explaining how it went. When I'm going there, I leave the gun at home as I am very uncomfortable leaving a gun in my vehicle anywhere!

FYI, just went to the casino in French Lick and as usual just informed the guard at the entrance. They called the manager who took me to a little room of the side where I signed in on the firearm form with date, time and printed name. Hey opened the lock box, I put my Glock inside, he shut the door, and handed me the key. I went on my way. When I returned, he signed me out, I opened the box and removed my my Glock and went on my way!

Not really sure I'd put up with them asking for my LTCH much less my DL............I"M NOT DRIVING into your casino! I know you were just posting information/details just putting in my 2 cents!
