Took a few days off last week and performed cleaning and maintenance, again, on the firearms. Beautiful day out side. :rockwoot:

It might be just me but I love the smell of the solvent. Couple that with gun oil, that needs to be on an air freshener IMHO. Almost as good as gunpowder.

:DIt's pretty well known, the old pop song "Love Potion #9" was about Hoppes #9!

I do not use hoppes any more due to better alternatives but I do miss the smell. Whenever i smell it I flash back to being 5 years old and smelling #9 as I watched my dad swab his Browning after pheasant or grouse hunting in Minnesota - ahhh life was soo sweet then

I prefer Break Free CLP. Brings back great memories with some of the best men and women I served with in the Air Force.

But I also like the scent of Hoppes.

Look for some Amyl Acetate out of a vetrinary supply house for the smell you're after.

If you want to make your own #9, mix the following:
100oz Kerosene or Varsol, deoderized preferably
    10oz Mineral oil
4oz acetone if you plan on cleaning black powder
1oz Amyl Acetate (banana oil, optional but gives it the unique smell)

That should make enough to last a long time. #9 is a spin of an old army mix when Nitro and BP were popular.

8 bucks for 2. Seems a little steep.

Wonder how fast Hoppes would evaporate? :dunno: Makes me wonder if I can get some poured into the empty air freshener that is currently sitting in my vent.

Bet you could take an old "worn-out" air freshener and just soak it in some #9. Towel it off a bit and hang it in the truck.
