The only hospital Ive been to in a non Law Enforcement capacity is St. Vincent's on 86th Ive always carried but moved my blade inside the waist band just to avoid the conversation.

Once I was doing security at a movie theater for an early showing of a movie and we were checking people for Cell Phones as they were not allowed into the theater. We were wanding people and a guys waist sets off the metal detector he looks at me and says "its a gun"

I said "excellent, enjoy the movie." haha'

But Ive been wanded at Klipsch with 2 blades in my waist band and a J frame in my boot and nothing happened :dunno: Mustve been a ghost gun model.

The mall ninja is strong with this one.

I once went to a music venue, and had security "search" me. They found and confiscated my pocket knife for the duration of the show, but missed my XDs and spare mags on my hip. If the establishment isn't willing to shell out big bucks for full TSA-style shakedowns, then they need to just let it go. Otherwise it's just feel-good measures!

Do you think TSA screenings are any more than theater?

Weird. My work has a strict “no weapons” policy, but I carry my leatherman Surge every day in a pouch on my belt. Multitool, not multiweapon.

My employer also has a very strict no weapons policy. But knives under 3 1/2" blade length are considered tools, unless you use them as a weapon. Then they will terminate you.

I've tried to make the same argument about firearms, but it always goes no where.

    Makes sense don't it.

Our hospital has police officers, not security. The hospital is posted "No Weapons". Yes, knives are considered weapons, because they are weapons. If a Leatherman has a knife blade...then, it`s a weapon Same for handguns no matter how great a person you are. The hospital is private property and as such they have the right to tell you to not bring in a firearm. They`re serious about this. Depending on what officer finds out you`re carrying a handgun, it may not be a pleasant trip to the parking lot.

At my hospital all security were sworn officers and hospital security was a Police Department under Indiana law. Ignoring an officers instruction to leave you weapon outside got you arrested for trespass.

Oh, there`s always something going on at the hospital, addicts in the ED, high and causing problems. People refusing to wear a mask. Whatever the issue is, the officers many times escort someone to their vehicle, or, arrest them, depending on the infraction and how confrontational they get with the officer. None have involved me, I am friends with all the officers, they`re all really great dude.

Our officers are all good people, and are mostly reasonable. But there are days when they`ve dealt with an awful lot of garbage all day long, and they've reached their quota for nonsense. They`ll make an arrest if it`s warranted, and if you antagonize them, especially if it were to come to a firearm in the hospital. They take this stuff seriously.

Just so I'm clear, they'll arrest you for trespass upon discovering that you are carrying? Regardless of whether you have been warned?

Not sure about that. It`s posted at all the entrances, so technically, that would be the warning. Our officers are all really great guys, and I imagine that, unless you were confrontational or otherwise mouthing off, they`d simply walk you to the door, but it may depend on the day.

It's my understanding that in Indiana signs are not legally binding. You must be "trespassed" in person and not abide prior to arrest.

A lot of folks walk right by the no gun signs while CCing.

Unless the hospital has a section for people involved in crime (like a "prisoner ward" for lack of a better term (like Methodist for example), then all they can do is trespass you if you refuse to disarm and leave.

No, they will ask you to remove the weapon from the building. If you do not comply or come back in still wearing (and they see you) they will tell you to leave and not return unless they had a really bad day, then arrest you if you did not comply.

    Gotcha!

In other words, concealed means concealed, right?
