On this date in 1773, American colonists staged the Boston Tea Party. Everyone knows the basic story: no taxation without representation, dressing as Indians before dumping tea in the harbor, etc. But it turns out, this was part of a larger story that helped separate Americans culturally from British by moving them from tea-drinking subjects to an independent coffee-drinking culture.
