So please excuse my ignorance, but what is the advantage of a "necker"? I carry an assisted opening knife in my pocket. Is there an advantage of having a fixed blade around your neck or is it simply preference?
Well some employers frown on seeing a folder clipped in your pocket. I like mine because its consistant. If I'm wearing khakis, jeans, or pocketless gym shorts its always there. I don't forget to change it over with a change of clothes and its in the same position. Its a tool and I treat it as such. I would only rely on it as a last chance weapon, its effectiveness relies on its accessibility, and your familiarity/training.
To me the advantage of a necker is that you have a fixed blade and to me the advantage of a fixed blade is that it can be double edged...I happen to like double edged karambits! Folding karambits are not double edged
BTW, since the karambit "was originally an agricultural implement designed to rake roots, gather threshing and plant rice"..."what weapon, I am a gardener carrying my work tool with me"!
