My wife and I had been involved in the young adult ministry at our church for several years (even though by this time we weren't "young adults" any more!).

Several of us men in the ministry were holding our Second Annual Appreciation dinner for the women who were a part of the ministry. I let her know about it, she decided to go. I volunteered to "help" at the dinner.

What I did during the meal, though, was to go prep. a spot in our sanctuary. I laid out a white sheet, got together several candles to light...

So, right as she was done with dinner, I asked another friend to go fetch her and bring her out to the lobby where I was waiting.

I escorted her down to the rather dark sanctuary to the little spot where the candles were aglow.

We partook of communion that I prepared. I then asked her to remove her shoes so that I might wash her feet as an act of service. Then I read a few verses of Scripture (can't remember now what they were...*sigh*).

After ALL that, I asked if she would be married to me (worded specifically this way because BEING married is different than just GETTING married, in my opinion).

Fast approaching 3 years (July 19)...4 month old daughter at home.

I'll never know how she puts up with me.

That's maybe the secret of a long and durable marriage, having both parties armed with firearms to have a balance of power.
This way no fighting inside the couple just like during cold war, you might hate eachother but you cant fight because the other one is armed. :D

After having dated for approx three years my girlfriend and I decided to take a vacation to Hawaii. I had already been saving so I decided that there was no better opportunity to ask than while we were there. Due to my work schedule, she had to do a majority of the packing which left me with a small problem, getting the ring to Hawaii without her knowing it. Just before we left, I asked her dad for her hand in marriage so long as she accepted, he gave his blessing for me to ask her. So, I just put the ring/box in my cargo pants leg pocket and we left for the airport. Considering this was shortly post Sept 11th, I knew I was at least going to have to empty my pockets so I just beat them to it. As I walked thru the metal detector I saw the man look at my leg questionably, so I asked if I could speak to him away from everyone else, to which he complied. When he pulled me off to the side, I explained my intentions and what was in my pocket. Surprisingly, he never made me pull it out (OMG, it could've been dangerous nail clippers or something), and he wished us both good luck. We got to Wakiki later that day and I asked her to marry me two days after we'd got there. It was on the end of the tiki torch lit pier on the diamond head end of Wakiki, somewhere around 10pm. There were several other people standing out there with us, immediatly everyone else knew what was happening, my wife though didn't. I got down on one knee and as I was reaching into my pocket, she asked me if my shoe came untied. We still laugh at her over that. June 12th was our 7th anniversary, we've been together for over 12 years total. I could not be happier.

I proposed on Christmas morning with her whole family present after soliciting the blessing of her Mother and Father the night before.

She was/is big on family and so for her, it was the perfect Christmas present. Her parents were thrilled that I included them as they had always treated me as though I were already family.

We were lying on the floor of my apartment (it was my apartment after my divorce and after a year I had still not purchased any furniture). He would always stay until I fell asleep. One night I told him he should just stay. He said the ex would give me trouble over my son if he did unless we were married. I said OK and fell asleep. He held me to it, and we got married almost exactly one year later. Certainly the best decision I've ever made - awake or asleep!

Wrapped the ring's box in a HUGE box for Christmas. Had her convinced the present was something else. She was a tad surprised. I asked her dad for her hand back around Thanksgiving. We had been dating for 5 years (all through college), and have been married now for about 15 years.

I was fairly typical, took her out to a fancy restaraunt, and proposed over desert. That was 9 years ago, and she still hasn't figured out I am a schmuck and that I clearly got the best end of this deal.

Bike ride to Angel Mounds State Park. Climbed the tallest mound and proposed among the trees at the summit.

A location we can always go back to, since it is not subject to "urban renewal."

Does it count if she asked me to marry her?
She woke me up with an elbow to the stomach and asked.
Thankfully after about a year it did not work out and we parted ways.

We met and went out a few days later the next week I asked her what she was doing for the rest of my life. She said she did not know and I asked her if she wanted to spend it with me. She said yes and we have been married for over 10 years and 3 kids. I knew the minute I met her.

I decided to propose when my girlfriend whom I had lived with for 5 years said " If you think it's a good deal buy the Tommy gun, I've kinda always wanted one myself." I figured any woman who would allow me to spend that kind of money on my hobby was worth keeping. So I saved up some money and put a nice ring on layaway.

Meanwhile I had purchased an airsoft Thompson to play around with while waiting on the transfer. Timeline on my layaway would put it in late november so I decide on Christmas for the proposal. I called Auto ordnance and got an empty box for a tommy gun ( they gave it to me for free when I explained my plan to the lady in Customer service) I took the airsoft Thompson and boxed it up along with 8 pounds of lead decoy weights so that the box would have the proper feel. I then cut a slit in the cardboard in the interior cardboard and set the ring in it, boxed the whole thing up, wrapped it and set it under our Christmas tree a couple of weeks before Christmas.

Christmas morning I made her wait till the last present to open what she was now thoroughly believed was her Thompson. When she opened it she immediately saw that it was not real, but did not notice the ring. She was confused and then actually started to get upset because I had gotten her hopes up. I had to point out the ring. She accepted.
10 months later we had our wedding with myself and all the groomsmen in fedoras and packing airsoft thompsons and a Model T instead of a limo. It will be 7 years this Oct.
