Dream come true my wazoo... Set up my newest target the other day, steel on springy legs so it will ring and move when hit, then shot it with .223. Dummy. Poked a hole right through it.
Should've called BOBCAT STEEL !!!!!
I guess, I know, why I very seldom, see anyone, where I shoot..... WW, New Castle, about 45 min., from home .....

    Range / How far

I have to drive 9 miles to shoot at 200yds and beyond, up to 600yds. Below 200, just out the back door. By the way, brother in law owns the long range, so there's no charge. Just bring a few beers for after the shootings done. SWEET!!

The good news for me is that my family has our own range. The bad news is that it's 70 miles away from my home. The drive is a pain, especially in the winter, but not having to deal with "Range Neanderthals" makes each mile worth the trip.

I used to have an indoor range about 10 mins away from me. But after having a loaded 45 pointed at me for the 5th or 6th time (and having multiple people get angry at me when I corrected their muzzle/trigger discipline... BARREL DOWNRANGE AND FINGER OFF TRIGGER. NOT HARD PEOPLE), I stopped going there, and now the closest one is about an hour away. Im know the NPCC is closer, but I need to wait for the next membership committee meeting thing before I can even think about joining that.

Do do do lookin' out my back door!

Berm is 100, 110 yards distant. I've dug up old plates which suggest I'm not the first person to have had the idea that a berm 90 degrees to one's back patio is a good thing...

How far do you drive to go shooting at your range?

    About 55 minutes.

Why do you drive so far? Is there not one closer? Or do you just like your range a lot and don't care about the drive?

While there are indeed closer ranges, I find many benefits to my range that keep me driving the 55 minutes.

    • Admission is free
    • I can set it up however I want
    • Range is stocked with Bobcat Steel at various distances
    • I can shoot at dusk/night if necessary
    • I can shoot handguns, shotguns, rifles, classIII
    • I can shoot rapid fire, from concealment, while moving, etc.
    • There is an on-site professional photographer
    • Ammo is provided
    • Guns can also be provided
    • Child care is provided
    • Breakfast, lunch, or dinner (often BBQ) is provided
And, of course, I get to see the 'rents and they get to snug on the grandkids. :yesway:

Now THAT is definately a reason to drive almost an hour to the range! ;) Actually I am more than a bit envious of you and your dad. I wish I had a range of that caliber to shoot at whenever I wanted as well. :yesway:
