For my more expensive handgun ammo like 500 s&w I only have 100 cases, cast my bullets so I keep them reloaded @100.
10mm ammo, 41 rem mag., 357/38 spl I keep about 300 rounds because it's easy to shoot a lot of target ammo that is fun but very expensive factory loads.

For me it depends on the caliber. For my high volume rounds (9mm, 45acp, 223) I start to get nervous if my quantity gets below 1000. But it is semi common for me to take a group to the range and go through 4-500 rounds in an afternoon and I can go through 300 pistol rounds/week if I shoot with a group of friends plus an IDPA match. So that 1000 could be mostly gone in a week. Not every week, but sometimes. Lower quantity revolver rounds I may keep less that 50 of a type loaded (eg 44 mag hollow point, then 44 mag lead, etc.)

While working and renting in Nashville, TN years ago my landlord wanted to go to the range when she found out I reload. She wanted silver bullets, she got nickel cases instead. 50 38 spls will fit in a 9mm tray and 10 trays fit a plastic shoe box. Every 2 weeks we were at the range with 2 boxes of ammo.

In preparation for the 2020 prairie dog wars deployments, I just took a quick tour of the ammo cabinet. I have two choices. Reload 600-800 each .223, .204, and .17 FB or......... we'll be shooting prairie dogs with 9mm pistols. On the up-side, we have plenty of 9mm. Time to crank up the Dillon.

I try to keep about 5000 rounds of 9mm and 5000 of 223 loaded. I make the 9mm bullets by the thousands so I always have plenty of bullets to load.

Oh, a box of this and two or three boxes (100 count) of that. A few more of the 9mm and a few less of the 35 INDY or 358 GNR.

There's times when I really feel like reloading and I'll just keep going until I run out of something. It's an enjoyable hobby, not a production line with a schedule or goals to meet.

Usually not enough. I tend to reload more over the winter and when that’s use up I end up loading as I need it.

It doesn't matter how much I stock, it seems that when me an my son have ammo we tend to shoot more matches. I think it's a Cart/Horse thing,

I just have one round. Do I need more? :dunno:

Even if there's multiple targets, you can always line them up or work the angles.

    Congrats on getting to fifty.
