Rifles are not more dangerous. In fact they are probably less dangerous, at least if you go by the experience Wisconsin has had with expanding rifles hunting to most of the state.

And I can tell you from hunting adjacent to public ground the the amount of shooting is no more and probably less since rifles have been allowed. Now that could be circumstantial and due to many factors. However, the number of injuries and deaths caused by gun shots has gone down and this past season set a record.

Only 4 total injuries and I think all 4 were self inflicted.

IIRC the Baskatow study said improvements in shotgun projectiles made the difference between rifles and shotguns minimal.....in ricochet.

Rifles didnt get safer. Shotguns got more dangerous

Visiting other forums one medic guy said accidents were common ( or used to be ) and as such were no big deal. Only the fatal ones got noticed. This another state.

Of course some accidents were thought not to be.

What geta reported aint all that happens either LOL

I like being able to use rifles. If public land hunters want to use them as well, I guess they should be allowed to. I am a public land BOW hunter. Once gun season comes in, actually even the last couple days before gun season, im out of there. The idiocy starts even before the actual season with the walking around and "scouting" and driving off road etc etc. That being said, it's my choice to not hunt on that ground, if others want to, then that is their choice and they should be able to use the same weapons that the guy on the other side of the fence is able to.

But I bet the total number of trigger pulls is lower now with rifles.

Fewer 1oz flying pieces of lead probably mean less danger, but that's just me.

    Infrared Sensors/Electronic Calls
"The use of infrared sensors or electronic deer
calls to locate or take deer is illegal."

    I can understand that.

"It is also illegal to hunt or to retrieve deer with the aid
of an infrared sensor or to hunt deer while
    possessing an electronic deer call."

I can understand most of that, but why don't they want people using thermal to RETRIEVE a deer?

too easy to claim you were only tracking it & not hunting with it...
