It's my first ever trout. I thought it was a good one.

he was a good sized fish. I had no idea they fought like he did. Right after this pic he slid right out of my hands and back into the water.

Had you intended to put him back regardless? Or...

Oh well, either way, congrats man, that`s great.

I was going to release him either way. I was actually fishing for bass. I was surprised he bit on my lure. Good size paddle tail jerkbait with a jig.

This is a fish caught in Indiana waters ? The only place I know of trout is down at Brooksville reservoir (?). However, background looks like a large creek or river.

I was told they are released on Blue River up in the northern part of Indiana. Local DNR officer said he sees a few make it this way south and are caught, occasionally. I guess they don't survive through the summer heat. No expert, just what I was told

I've caught lots of trout, but it was decades ago and out west on vacation, particularly out of the Gardener River, where we all easily caught our limit.
Lots of rainbows, some cutthroat and brookies.
Dad and my brothers contributed those, plus a few brownies.
We let many go, but we also had some of the finest eating for the next few days, absolutely gorging ourselves on nature's bounty.
