    THIS right here. :+1:

Most people tend to forget that we are politically backward here in the United States.

Our nation was founded on Classical Liberalism (with the word Liberal itself stemming from the Latin word for liberty). Thomas Jefferson formulated his philosophy of governance off of the notions presented by John Locke, in so much as he opposed the formation of an overly powerful central government, which would likely abuse its people, as all other similar governments have in the past. This was truly a 'Progressive' idea at the time, as it had never been tried before. Giving the power to the people, so they may determine their own destiny, and defend themselves from any abusers, is central to the original American political philosophy.

Classical Conservatives favored the maintenance of a strong government, which could exercise its power over the people "for the greater good". The role of a Conservative government was clear - to do whatever is necessary to maintain order and stability (Utility) without regard to individual freedom or happiness (Liberty).

Calling Liberals Conservatives, and likewise calling Conservatives Liberals, frankly makes my head spin. I would liken the practice to 'Doublespeak' in George Orwell's book 1984. It is just absurd.

I tell my leftist friends on Facebook they are really "als" because there is no liber in their ideology.

Some people just have a different world view. What is sensible and right and just to them is abhorrent to you, and visa versa. It's hard to get someone who views the world differently from me to not think I'm an alien from another planet.

    Well, yeah, but they're wrong.

Don't be silly. We have plenty of public examples examples of just that sort of liberal and just that sort of hypocrisy, from college professors and political leaders to celebrities. And as for the "rank-and-file," I've had enough discussions with liberal relatives and acquaintances to understand that they base their beliefs on emotional arguments and blind political loyalties rather than reasoned arguments.

The base salaries of many public university professors would boggle the minds of most of us lowly worker bees. $250K+ is not unusual, and that's before all the extra stuff.
They can easily afford to indulge the vanity of their socialist-statism. I cannot afford their self-indulgence.

And I try to tell them as often as possible.

As someone else said, I shouldn't mind that people have diverse political opinions. We can talk about them, argue about them, whatever. It's when they try to impose their political whims on me as policy that I have a problem with it. And I'm also not very fond of people pretending their ideology an issue of morality, to fundamentally change the U.S.

The people who say the constitution is outdated are the people who want to fundamentally transform the U.S. The constitution requires some pretty rigorous steps to gain the permission of the people to be changed and that's just too inconvenient.

I do in fact hate liberals. Liberal leaning teachers have taken their "progressive" nonsense and insist on filling our kids heads with their beliefs and modified history. By the time they're 18 our children have hopefully learned the 3 R's but most certainly have been subjected to endless liberal nonsense. Just in time to vote and proceed on to the Socialist University of their choice, for the final years of their indoctrination.

Strange. I have have two teenagers, one senior in HS, one off to Ball State, and both are far more conservative than I. :dunno:

In the 80s and 90s, I had some hard left, 60s survivor, flower power, old school hippies for teachers. They seem to have all retired into obscurity. Guess the younger ones are just sneaky about it.:shady:

I am bracing myself for the kid's experience at BSU. I heard the "S" stands for socialist.

    Yep
The moment I hear the words "living document," I immediately recognize someone to be regarded as a foot soldier for tyranny.

    Actually, that's universal.
If it has a "U" in the name, that stands for "Uninformed."
