I bought my first handgun in October of last year.
At that time my Dad got interested in what I was doing and decided to buy one as well.
    Fast forward 8 months...
    I have 2 pistols.
Dad has 26 pistols and 4 rifles.
Prior to my new found interest I had only ever been exposed to air guns and shotguns growing up, Dad's exposure was probably on par with mine.
    What did I do?
Additionally Dad wants to retire and become a gunsmith! He's already taking courses and talking about buying a shop.
I'm not saying any of this is bad, at all, I love being able to borrow any gun I could desire. But I'd hate to see Dad on any "list"

I recommend simply being happy that the two of you have a common interest. Not everyone has this.

^^^^ Lucky & Hunter are both correct... As long as things are not being ignored, enjoy the excitement & try to enjoy this time.

RandomCubed - hey son is that you?

    Just kidding.

I am close to retirement age and have really taken a fancy to owning, trading, shooting, selling firearms....

My son who thinks he created a monster believes that I had not thought much about them during the time he was growing up. The fact that he told me, as a teenager, that he wanted to learn gun safety and marksmanship just kindled a little spark.

Now I too have several firearms, rifles, pistols and shotguns....

Now my wife even talks about my gun desires. A little off topic, but I told me wife that I could chase either hot women or cool weapons, adding the following explaination. If I should spend $500.00 on some hot women, should I die that money is gone forever; however, should I spend $500.00 on some cool weapon, should I die she could still sell the weapon (to an INGOer of course) and get back a portion or all of that money.....

She's still not happy, but she just doesn't interfere with my gun quests anymore. My sons also don't complain much either....they like to BORROW dad's toys so they can say...Yep, seen it, held it, and you betcha I fired it too.....

As long as the bills are paid, let daddy have his fun!

ENJOY! Shoot all of Dad's guns that you can and buy more for him to work on.Nothing better that to have a gunsmith in the house. Of course, if this doesn't work for you, he can adopt me.

Being right at retirements door and also a gun addict , I love the time I spend with my son/son in law/daughter in the gun hobby. We used to have race cars, now we have guns. Key word, "WE"
Enjoy every minute you have with dear old Dad.

I'm glad everyone is so enthused, I'm glad Dad and I have something in common now, up till now he's only been like this about guitars (I can't play guitar, despite trying a lot). Its too bad he doesn't live closer, otherwise you would have a hard time getting us off the range.

Want to know how to make a little money gunsmithing?

Start with a lot of money...

Seriously though: The classes he's taking may or may not be worth the time & money & effort. Kind of like getting a "degree" from many of these fly-by-night online "colleges".

Best bet: Set up an apprenticeship with an established and well-regarded gunsmith and learn from them.
