If you don't know, I happen to be a high school Saber Fencing coach. I have students who fence in both school conference and USFA events. If this proposed rule goes into effect my kids will be competing under 2 different sets of rules, making a training nightmare. Even fencing clubs oppose this rule change. You do NOT have to be a fencer to sign the petition!

Why in the world are they making two sets of rules?

The high school conference is using the old/current set of rule.

SOME private clubs are retaining the old/current set of rule.

SOME private clubs are adopting the new/proposed rule.

The USFA is adopting the new/proposed rule on a TEMPORARY basis and set a TRIAL PERIOD, after which it will then review the results to see if it wants to reject -or- permanently adopt the new/proposed rule.

The international body is adopting the new/proposed rule but considering it as a temporary rule, similar to the USFA system.

So basically its a cluster.

In the past the USFA has chosen not to adopt the international rules. There is plenty of opposition and resentment to this rule, but it needs to be organized. Hence the need to get the petition rolling along.

Trying to keep it that way.

Hoping to get the USFA to reverse its position before they implement the temporary rule! It would eliminate a lot of confusion and could cause the international organization to eliminate their adoption of the rule too.
