I live in an area, not prone to flooding but just on the edge of the
floodplain. So in case the flood hits the fan I need some where to
keep my ammo. I've seen a lot of water resistant boxes, and
the interweb has a bunch of folks tryin' to sell surplus ammo cans.

    any advise is helpful.
If surplus ammo can is best bet what size?
    I have 2.75 12 ga., 9mm, 22lr

    thanks

its probably a foot and a half deep two 3 foot in length and 2 in width. its OD green and has an airline approved rubber seal. the box is almost brand new. i bought it wanting to use it to store some small steel targets at the range to keep them from getting rusty but decided against it so now its just taking up space.

Get some G.I. issue ammo cans with good seals and put your ammo in them. I had one full of ammo sitting in the live well of my boat and some how hit the switch and filled the live well full of water. I realized what I had done, I grabbed the ammo can opened it and it was dry as bone inside. They will work.

I use the military cans too. Just makes sure the rubber seals are intact.

I store my boxes of ammo for long term storage into ziploc bags.
Each box of ammo is in a sealed ziploc bag with a little pack of silica gel in each bag.
It will keep moisture and water away for cheap.
