today I attended my nephew's graduation party that was held at my SIL's parents farm way out east.
Mike (SIL's Dad), who ive known since I was a kid, was showing us some things he does in his Cowboy Action club which included knife and tomahawk thowing.
Man, What a blast. My arm is sore from throwing that thing. My Fiance' got into it too.
So my questions are; Where to find a good tomahawk, what does one cost, is there an INGO member that I can support buy giving them business and when is the next Chop In?
    I'm hooked!

I'm no expert. I'm new to hawks myself so I know what you're feeling! Cold Steel makes good hawks for the price. They are not super high quality but they are durable and good for throwing. Any hawk you throw much is going to get beat up so spending too much is generally not a good idea. We had a group buy a while back through Bradsknives and KnifeLady. Here's a link:

I don't know if the prices we had for the group buy are still good but I'm sure Bradsknives or KnifeLady could help you out!

Thanks for that link Jack! I kinda liked the small camp hawk. It seemed to be more of a dual purpose tool with the hammer head.

That's called a "pole" on a tomahawk and you can get it on the larger hawk as well. I got both mine made that way. It's pretty useful. The larger one is easier to stick when you are throwing them. The small one makes a great belt axe and with the harder steel folded in to the center it can be razoe sharp if you want it that way. I've field dressed a few deer with nothing but the tomahawk and it's better than a lot of knives, especially if you are only going to carry one or the other.

The next Friendship get together is June 11-19.

Sure to be custom hawk makers there. I always have a good time, hawks, knives, blacksmiths, national muzzleloader shoots, huge flea market, LOTS of long guns for sale/trade... just awsome.

Thanks for the suggestions and the info, all.
Does anyone have one of the Cold Steel Trench Hawks? My Fiancé thinks it looks bad a$$, me too for that matter. Is it a good hawk for throwing? Or is it just ninja tacticool?
I think I would like one of the more tradtional looking hawks for myself though.

I bought mine on Amazon because I thought you said you didn’t want to deal with the hawks anymore. My bad Brad, I must have misunderstood.

You may not have misunderstood...I may have said something along those lines. The group buy on the hawks is what frustrated me, not the hawks themselves or the people in the group buy (logistics and getting all of the models that were needed....etc. was a bit frustrating). Now that I have had a little time to think about it, if I was asked again to do a group buy, I wouldn't hesitate in helping out the INGO community.:ingo:

So you're saying you'd be up for another mass hawk shipment if there was support? :D

Consider me IN if that is a possibility in the near future.

At the NRA convention I tried both the Cold steel Rifleman Hawk and the one with the pike back. The Rifleman one was heavier than I wanted for throwing, but a good weight for cutting wood. I got the other one and it is fun and works really well on the saplings in the yard that need removed.

I've accumulated several different 'hawks over the years. Most have been the Cold Steel brand, primarily because they used to send me their sale/closeout flyers and there were some very nice deals.

As an all-around working tool, I like their Rifleman's Hawk. Works great at chopping and the "hammer" poll comes in handy for driving tent stakes, etc.

I also like their smaller Norse Hawk. Its design comes from the smaller Viking fighting/throwing axes, but it also makes a pretty useful camp tool. With some training, in well-practiced hands, I can see where it would be a fearsome weapon.

I bought one of their reproductions of the so-called Viet Nam tomahawks, mostly as a sort of historical artifact. I saw only one of these being carried by an LRP Marine in my 16 mos. patrolling on the Bassac river. Not very useful as a tool, per se, but it's a very formidable and nasty close-quarters weapon. Looks as if the updated SOG model linked to above would be just as nasty and much more rugged.
