I cannot believe that the guy just sat here. I would have at least stood up and move so to stand on the ladder part of the stand to give myself a couple of feet between me and the bear, and that probably would have still been within range for the bear to do something to me. WOW

Black Bears are typically as shy as they are curious. Wild or Unknown noises drive most of them away. These guys have either had encounters with bears before or simply have nerves of steel.

When bear reached and started to climb I'd yell "hey bear! Get outta here!"

If he continued to climb I'd keep yelling until about half way up. Then fire a shot into the ground. If he doesn't stop by then It either wants to eat me or is stupid. So then I shoot bear.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's common knowledge that they can climb but I had no idea they could that fast.
