For my sons 10th Christmas, Id like to buy a single shot 410.

I found a New England Pardner on GunBroker.

It says 3 inch chamber...That said, is it safe and is it doable to load it with 2 3-4 inch shells?

Id like 2 3/4 mainly for lower recoil and findability...

If you have advice (or a gun for sale) please let me know.

    Thank you!!

I think the New England Pardner is the same as the H&R Pardner. As far as a single shot goes, I don't think you could go wrong with H&R, New England or Rossi.

May I ask why you want to go with .410 though? What will it primarily be used for?

The main problem with a .410 is they come with full chokes. At normal rabbit ranges the pattern is tiny! Hard to hit for a lot of people.

I agree and with a .410, shots need to mostly be kept to shorter distances. Also, if the kid is to go shoot any clays game for practice it's a serious handicap. IMHO most 10-11yo kids can handle lighter 20g loads just fine. We started my nephew last year with a Rossi youth single shot 20g fixed Mod choke, and 7/8oz loads and the kid was able to regularly handle a couple boxes of shells when shooting trap. My nephew isn't exactly large for his age either.
