We being all of those who were busy working/providing for and raising family's and not paying enough attention. This has been coming for a long time.
The lever pullers. Voting the straight party ticket regardless.
    The deniers.
The list goes on and on and on.
It’s a flawed binary system used by widely diverse voters such that every election is a Hobson’s choice for most voters. No level of attention would stop this.

Example: Trump orders AG to make bump sticks illegal. Whaddya gonna do? Vote for a bat**** crazy Democrat? No. Even if you’re not a straight ticket voter, even if you pay the strictest attention, even if you admit all that’s happening and all the faults of all the candidates, at the end of all that, you effectively have just one of two levers to pull, the one which most encapsulates every aspect of the fullness of all your political desires.

The president is a pompus ass, cad, scoundrel, habitual liar, womanizer, cheating pornstar ****er, potential gun banner, authoritarian, just about everything I hate in a candidate. But ***damn it. Who am Ingoing to vote for? A pedophile protecting, race baiting, communist loving, lying, cheating, cocksucking, native pretending, tax-n-spendy, lying sack of **** Democrat? No. I’m stuck with the pornstar ****er.

Ain’t no amount of awareness will win America back to what it was envisioned to be when you have choices for leaders like what we have. So no. Not “our” fault. Your guilt is dissolved. You are blameless in this mess. You’re only to blame if you wanted more of any of the bad ****.

Disclaimer: none of the above should be construed to endorse apathy. Though not much less effective than the system we have, at least the pornstar ****er is an overall better outcome than the embodiment of Stalin sleeping in the Whitehouse.

They wont raise taxes on average people they'll just keep going deeper into debt. We need to raise taxes just to pay for the BS we have now but no one will do it. Well actually we need to spend less but no one on either side wants to do that.
This is not true. I cursed that *******ee Bill Clinton every year when I wrote that huge check to the IRS. That mother****er loved him some middle class taxes. They’ll say tax the rich when they’re campaigning, but once they have the power, they’re quite happy to redistribute your pittance too.

What'd he raise middle class taxes to/from?

I've always heard that argument about raising families, working etc. Making it hard for avg people to pay attention to politics but is that truly the case? I'm not raising kids but I feel like if we are going to have democracy that even busy working class folks are obligated to pay at least some attention.

OK I will give you that and yes we paid some attention but all the while the groups were forming and money was shifting and the social media was not a thing. That is when all of this took root. I was watching but no one listened.

I have raised 5 kids. Mentored several. Spent weekends at the lake with the family and at the race track living my dreams. Not a lot of time for much else and as mentioned.....all we had was the TV. CNN was getting its feet under it. The big 3 were not as liberal as now but the competition for viewer share was coming to the fore. And talk radio was there just not up front.

To not have kids and at your age being immersed in social media most of your life then yes, you are a bit more in tune with the pulse of things.
Kids=school and all that goes along with that/sports and all that entails/sickness and health....both major time consumers/keeping up with them as they grow. A very readers digest type list but please know kids are a full time job. The hardest and most expensive thing we take on. Try it with 5 of them and then get back too me please.

No knock on you directly as we all choose the path we desire to walk.

Jamil was right in his assessment of the Bill and Billery show.
He was also correct as to our choices for POTUS but even in that we have a primary system that is barely used or so it seems.
My reference is towards the real power......House and senate. People entrenched for a lifetime. That is not how this is supposed to work. The alphabet agency's that wield real power and alter or make law.

I think part of the blame for this lies with the ability to make it a life's career. I think what influenced men to serve and then move on in the past was the need to do something else in order to make your fortune. Once it became possible to make a good living (possibly a better living than they could make outside of gov't) then we got legislators as barnacles rather than servants of the people

The primary system is also a jug****. Too easy to game.

And add to that districts like Ocasio-Chavez's, where if you win the primary you're in. Maybe try to come up with an open source algorithm that makes districts as competitive as possible and push to use it during redistricting, rather than try to reform the primary system

If she had to run in a competitive district against a reasonably sane Republican/Conservative we might not even know who she was

I would like to see a federal budget law like we have in Indiana.

However much you taxed the people two years ago is how much you get to spend. If you overspent in the previous 2 years, then that gets subtracted from your budget. Easy Peasy.

If people want free ****, then I all for raising their taxes to make them pay for it.

Hell, I think withholding taxes should be illegal. Make people write a damn check for all their government services.

    Invite him to a pub.
Invite him to join you on a socialist experiment.
Place 20 bucks on the table ask him to do the same.
The when the waitress walks over order $35 dollars worth of food and drink for yourself.

The Gov't does it that way because it is much easier and cost effective to force one business to comply than the 100 individual employees thereof

That lesson proceeds too slowly and the point might be obscured. Instead, after the money is ponied up, order drinks for both of you and then pocket his $20

It's also easier to trick people into thinking they aren't paying 14% social security tax... I really hate that FDR, may he rot.

I just listened to Bernie on JRE. About the only good thing I can say about him is he's honest, corruption doesn't flow through him like Clinton or Trump. Also that he's only for an assault weapons ban, not for confiscation, which apparently puts him far right of those he's up against in the dem primary and makes him the lesser of evils on that front. The list of good things about him is admittedly short.
