I'm guessing there's no actual law against carrying on university/college property? Unfortunately I do know my school has rules against ANYONE carrying a firearm on university-owned property.

I'm sure there are lots of permit holders carrying concealed on college campus.

I think it's a decision you have to make on your own. Is being able to defend your life worth being kicked out of school if you get caught carrying?

Or is staying in school worth losing your life over?

I know, it's a very difficult decision. On one hand I believe I have a basic right to be able to defend myself and protect my life; on the other hand getting kicked out of school would be terrible as well since school basically is my life right now. Maybe I'll just have to write a few letters to my school.

I feel I have to carry in school. I go to school in Gary. There is almost no choice. Getting kicked out isn't as important as losing my life.

This is the one that I was glad to find a couple of years ago. We take our kids to school ourselves, so I was glad to see this exception when our oldest started school and have tried to spread the word since.

I am all for the writing of letters to the school. But be carefull. I feel that if you make the decision to write the school you have made the decision to not carry. Call me paranoid if you want but I feel the school would find a way to have you searched. All they would have to do is say an anomynous student or teacher saw something that looked like a firearm in your possesion.

There was a thread on another forum where a student was pulled out of class and searched by police because another student saw him on an internet gun forum.

I myself have thought about writing a letter or two but I'm scared of what my happen if I do.

    Indiana University

Indiana University has a policy that if you are not a police officer then you cannot carry on campus. My understanding is that it is a school policy, not a state law. State Senator Johnny Nugent has introduced a bill that would allow valid permit holder to carry on all public college campus (SB 0158), though it got nowhere this year. Hit up your state reps and ask them to favor this kind of legislation!

Just to note, that you have to remain in your car if you carry to the school. It's only allowed in the parking lot, while you are in the car. I wish that it wasn't this way.

Another point. If you goto church and the church operates a preschool then the church even on Sunday is off limits all the time.

I highly recommend picking up (or I would even lend) the book Indiana Handgun Law, Bryan Lee Ciyou, ESQ. index He goes into a lot of details on everything.

If you attend IU Northwest in Gary then I agree that you should carry. Especially if you have night classes. The campus is not really a campus as most would think of as a campus setting, its really buildings in a urban area and not a very nice urban area (although there are certainly worse areas of Gary!)

Yup, that is the way I understand the law. Basically it allows you to transport your gun through the parking lot, if and only if, you are dropping off/picking up your child.

It poses a problem for those of us with elementary school aged children, the school my daughter attends requires parents to park and then walk to the area where the children are waiting for their parents. The children are not allowed to walk out into the parking lot without being accompanied by their parent.

Huh? We have a church building and a school building that share a common parking lot, but the buildings are across the parking lot from each other. The school building does not have classes on the weekends. Are you saying that the church building is off limits because of the school building being on the same property? Or does this church ban only apply to pre-schools that are operated INSIDE of the actual church building?

Can you give us a reference to this (law/regulation) because I am really unsure how this might apply to my church? I'd like to read the law.

:draw:I went to a Mcdonalds tonight for just a couple of drinks. (after all they're only a buck right now)
Well because of a truck delivery in progress the drive-thru was in-operable. So even though my cover shirt was back at home I went in anyway. I got a couple of funny looks from the customers. One lady in particular was standing next to who I perceived to be her granddaughter. the crew was unusually slow this evening and while I was patiently waiting my turn my hands neatly folded in front of me with my own money in hand... trying like hell to be as non-threatning as possible. when this granny caught a glimpse of my 1911 in the Galco IWB holster and she turned back to her granddaughter and told her to get her money in her hand!!! Then after they got their food and all I wanted was three drinks I kind-of met them at the drink counter. granny was just finishing up and a young man I'm guessig her son was getting ready to fill his cups for another kids meal or two, he looked at me and offered to let me go first. I said no thank you i am NOT in a hurry and you were here first. All the while this one family seemed really nervous while every one else in the building seemed to not even notice. :dunno:
