In the good ole days parking was available about anywhere. I checked the Web for this Info and there should be a smaller lot near the main Terminal where you can Park for cell phone use and staging for passenger pick up at the Main Terminal. I'm not sure of the view but its available and close to all activity. FED EX has the South East side (High School Road area) of the Airport and much plane activity during their busy hours.Back in the 80's my parents use to take us by the airport on our way to Grays and watch a couple of planes come and go.
Are there and parking lots off the side (free) where you can get a good view of planes taking off and landing? My son is absolutely in love with planes at the moment.
Yep, I was just going to suggest the cell phone lot.In the good ole days parking was available about anywhere. Definitely cell phone lot. They purposefully rerouted S Perimeter road on the outside of a berm post-9/11 so there isnt as much of an area for them to watch. In the good ole days parking was available about anywhere. ???You could go to the airport on 600 off of 70. I used to go there and watch the smaller planes come and go or do touch and go exercises etc.
Out on mt comfort road. Get off of 70 there at the mc Donald's and head north on mt comfort road.

3867 N Aviation Way, Greenfield, IN 46140
5R/23L is currently closed so not many good views from the cell phone lot at this time.
I suggest going to the top of the parking garage even though it costs and park on the side that faces the Republic hangar.
Another good place where you won't have to pay is the warehouse parking lot at the corner of Ronald Reagan and Stafford.

If you try pulling over anywhere you WILL get unwanted attention eventually. But the cell phone lot is pretty good if they are using runways 23/5
Its unlimited time parking if you are still in your car watching. They are not likely to tell you to move along unless you are giving off a creepy vibe. This ^^^
I looked it up, the cell phone lot has 2 hr free parking and is at the approach end of runways 5 Right and 5 Left and between them. Instructions on how to get there at the following link:
