My second favorite tex mex restaurant (Hacienda) also blocks INGO from their public wifi. I posted a picture to their corporate facebook page of my ipad with their "inappropriate content: weapons" block screen next to my beer and plate of food sitting on the bar with the comment "I'm old enough and responsible enough to sit here in your bar and drink a beer, but heaven forbid I look at anything weapons related. Seriously?" No response.

I can understand porn and such that could offend neighboring diners who might glance at my screen, but INGO? Srsly?

I hear you brother, it's down right stupid.

Bribes do not work when corporate is located in the communist state of MA. And I'm IN the IT department! INGO = BLOCKED, Revere's Riders = BLOCKED, Car boards & most discussion boards = BLOCKED. Youtube, however, has so many popular training videos that it's wide open!

I do have my own cellular connected tablet so it's not too bad. If I'm up against my data plan cap I can remote into another location where I know the content filtering is not working. I'm sneaky like that sometimes. :shady:

I'm paranoid. I don't want my work knowing what sites I'm on, or how much time I'm on them.
Then again, not a problem, I'm not on the network at work. I work in a technical field, and not on the network. Yup, that's how stupid it is.

May not be the distraction factor, it may be the content. They can block selectively based on subject matter.

This is my case at work... nothing "weapons-related" is allowed, although I can get to Sportsman's Guide and order ammo, guns, whatever. Apparently it doesn't trigger the IT "watchdogs".

So, I started poking around thing morning. Who defines the "category" associated with a website for content filtering? Why is INGO in "weapons" rather than "discussion forums and Message Boards"?

Me: Did y'all update our web content filter?
    IT geek: yeah..... why?
Me: Can't get to some sites all the sudden.
IT geek: Just a second..... OK, try it now.
    Me: That did it. Thanks.
IT geek: No problem <mumbles something about "that $@^# software keeps rolling back to the defaults after every update.">

Updates rolling back. One word. Puppet.

Strangly, INGO is not blocked by my filter. Nor are most NRA sites, or cabelas, but the weapons content filter is turned on. All major manufacturer sites are blocked. Oh, I mean used to be... I had my pc and the owner's whitelisted by device so I didn't pay much attention. Then I started getting calls from purchasing about blocks on sites that sell parts for paint spray "guns" and I said screw that. Waste of my time so I nixed the entire weapons category from the content filter.

Back when I had internet at home I just had a virtual machine in the DMZ that I would RDP into from work.

I would like to be able to track/ /monitor the business wi-fi usage at work. I am sure it is possible just not sure how to go about it using Comcast / Xfinity.

Strange. After a week of not being able to access INGO at work, it is now available once again.

Never said a word to IT (not sure that it would have made a difference anyway, but hopefully will never know!).

I've been a member here for about 5 years. I like to browse INGO during my lunch break, and occasionally during ammo shortages, gun bans, civil disobedience, wind, snow, rain, political debates, religious debates, hurricanes, blizzards, fuel shortages, ice cream shortages, or other national emergencies.
