Because you can add it to your title and maybe get a shirt that says “CRO Bright” on it.

Maybe so that when helping a match and you're assigned as a CRO, you're officially a CRO rather than an implanted CRO? I shot a match in Kentucky and the USPSA president was raising hell on the MD for implanted RO/CRO as their official ROs we're just only 6, they hardly had staffing. The beard's reasoning was the shooters might get away a lot with safety/rule violations.

That, sir, is a very good question.

I think it probably appeals mostly to people who want to be an RO more than they want to shoot (or instead of shooting), especially since it's about actual ROing now rather than stage design.
