"CHICAGO — A Chicago woman involved in a beating of a mentally disabled man that was shown on Facebook Live has pleaded guilty to a hate crime and been placed on probation for four years."

    Probation? That will teach her!

Meanwhile......... some hate crimes are more equal than others or something.

Not one article in the Sunday Chicago Tribune about the girl getting sentenced. Seems like the local media wants to sweep it under the rug.

I found both, Chicago based, newspaper and tv articles on the situation. They are doing a fairly bad job of sweeping this under the rug.

How do you feel about the sentence?

It seems like a really light sentence. But maybe there are other things that may be at play. There are four people involved, right? If they get similar sentences, then I'd really think the sentencing was BS.

The most hardcore Major I worked for in the Army is now a vegan and huge liberal. So much so that once he found out I was now a police officer he politely declined to maintain contact in spite of how well we got along while serving together.

I haven’t a clue. He wasn’t interested in catching up. He was kind about it and said previous attempts at maintaining contact with current officers he had served with did not go well. He said it was good to see that I was doing well and he hoped that would
continue and that was the end of it.

Not all military are libertarians or conservatives.

Well, there is that whole 'free' education, 'free' food, 'free' lodging aspect to it. Of course most of the libs who get sucked in don't understand there's a lot of poorly paid, hard and dangerous work attached to that 'free'.

Man rejects plea deal in Facebook Live torture case

Jordan Hill, one of four people charged in the 2017 Facebook Live torture case, rejected a plea deal from Cook County prosecutors Tuesday that would have sent him to prison for eight years.
Under the deal, Hill, 19, was to plead guilty to aggravated kidnapping and a hate crime.
    ...
Earlier this year, Brittany Covington pleaded guilty after spending 11 months in the Cook County Jail. She was sentenced to probation.

    And...

[Judge William] Hooks had previously noted that it may be difficult to empanel an impartial jury, given the case’s international exposure.
Hooks said he will want an extra-large jury pool of 200 to 300 people in hopes of finding people who haven’t made up their minds about a case about which millions of people have stated an opinion.

“The court remembers that the president of the United States, which at the time was Barack Obama, made mention of this case,” Hooks said, referring to Obama’s remark in a televised interview that the abuse on the video was “despicable.”

Teeing up for a mistrial and subsequent much reduced plea bargain?
